The Moment We Had Our First Vision Weekend

At the end of October 2019, my husband and I held our first Vision Weekend.

I heard of the idea from a couple at the Moms in the Making Conference in early October. They talked about getting away once a year to connect and dream. When I heard of this, I knew it’s just what we needed. We had a lot going on in life (teaching, building a business, house flipping, infertility) so to get away would be good for us both.

When I got back from the conference, we booked a cute AirBNB, and a couple weeks later, we zoomed off to Branson, Missouri for a three day weekend. Our goal was to have no plans, but just to enjoy each other. It was one of the best weekends we’ve had in a while.

The first day, after sleeping until noon, we spent the day at Silver Dollar City. It was cold and rainy, but it has been one of the best days I’ve had in awhile. It was if we were teenagers in love with no cares in the world. The day consisted of holding hands and riding rollercoasters, exploring caves and riding trains. For just that day, I didn’t worry about our house projects or my job. I didn’t think about how we’ve been trying to have a baby for 2.5 years. I just lived my life, and it was beautiful.

Day 2 of our weekend looked a little different. Our plan was to go hiking, but our plans were spoiled by the rain. We went to a mall instead, walking around, arm in arm, sipping coffee, and people watching. That afternoon at our AirBNB, I began my blog…again, and we discussed our wildest dreams and future plans. When night fell, we ventured to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede. What a peaceful night watching the Christmas show with my lover by my side.

Sunday morning we packed up and hurried home to our fur babies. What a beautiful weekend!

For everyone, a vision weekend can be a little bit different, but for us it was a weekend where we discussed our dreams and hopes for the future. We soaked up each other’s presence, and enjoyed the blessing of marriage. We asked the hard questions and left on the same page. If you and your spouse have never experienced one, I suggest you go as soon as possible!
